North Conway, NH – A few years after we all finished Brooks Institute of photography, Ashley and I reconnected with a fellow “Brookie” by the name of Grant Morris. We met up for coffee and talked mostly about transitioning from school into starting a business. Grant had just started New Sky Productions along with some colleagues and we spent the time discussing business goals, marketing plans and his upcoming wedding. Flash forward a few months and we were honored to be chosen to photograph Grant and his lovely fiancee Caitlyn’s wedding at the White Mountain Hotel and Resort.
The wedding day was incredibly relaxed and easy going. I think I held the brunt of the stress because we were scheduled for a Noon ceremony time, in the middle of Summer with zero clouds in the sky. Noon light is very harsh and unflattering light, so all I could do was hope for some clouds to come in and sit above the mountain for about an hour so we could have the ceremony and portraits under a blanket of soft light. And can you imagine that at 11:40 am, we got EXACTLY that scenario?! I later told Grant that I ordered the clouds especially for them!
As a Louisiana native, Grant planned to start the reception with a New Orleans Mardi Gras style party with beads, parasols and other fancy accessories… And I’m willing to bet some cash that there are still feathers from those boas somewhere at the hotel. As the day turned to evening we were able to convince the bride and groom to spend some time with us for evening portraits. They were great sports about it even though they had spent the last 4 hours partying it up. It helps that the groom is a photographer and knows that the light is perfect that time of day.
Grant and Caitlyn are two of the happiest newlyweds we know, and it was such a privilege to able to create these photos for them.
