A January Boston Harbor Hotel Wedding

When I first talked with Ian on the phone last fall we had a great conversation about photography. I always try to ask people about what they like in wedding photography and being that I’m not speaking with photographers, some people have trouble describing their preferences. Not Ian, he knew that he wanted photographers that were more interested in telling a story than showing off new gear and gadgets. After pouring over wedding photography for a couple of weeks, Ian and Suzanne knew they wanted a lot of candid moments, a few portraits and someone interested in their wedding story.

And after meeting with them I knew that we were a good fit. Ashley and I are always honored when we are invited to a wedding as the photographers. We knew the Boston Harbor Hotel was a great venue and it’s always been a favorite Boston hotel venue for us. Given the harsh Winter weather we were pretty concerned about snow and blizzards, but we lucked out with a 50 degree day. It did rain, which was a total bummer because portraits outside by the harbor can be magical, but that didn’t damper anybody’s day.

All of the getting ready took place at the BHH, but the ceremony was held at Sacred Heart Church in the North End of Boston. Before we headed over to the ceremony, I had the privilege of taggin along with Ian and his best man, Brian, as they headed over to Bond for a quick beverage to calm the nerves. Bond is in the old Federal Reserve building and Ian absolutely loved the architecture of the building. I can’t blame him, it was a perfect spot for a pit stop.

The ceremony at Sacred Heart was beautiful. One of my favorite images is the one of Suzanne’s mom looking on as she walked down the aisle. I love the emotion. The architecture of Boston churches always impresses me. So much history and grandeur, it’s always really impressive to me as a wedding photographer.

After the ceremony we hopped into a cab back to the Boston Harbor Hotel for the reception. The staff at the BHH always does an amazing job. The bride and groom hired Kahootz, one of our favorite Boston wedding bands. This band always puts on a great show and they had the dance floor packed all night.

This was a great wedding day for Ian and Suzanne and we were so happy to play a small part in it!
